BANNS of MARRIAGE APPLICATION
A legal requirement in the Church of England is that ‘banns’ are ‘called’ over three Sundays in Holy Trinity, and in the parish where the non- resident partner lives (if applicable). This means that on three Sundays, the clergy will ask the congregation if anybody has any objection to your marriage going ahead.
This rather quaint practice dates from an era when populations were less mobile and bigamy was more prevalent! Banns must be called during the three months before the wedding.
To have your Banns read out you will need to fill out a Banns of Marriage Application form. If you wish to get the process rolling, you can fill out the online application below. The information you provide here, will give us an indication of whether we are eligable for reading your banns at Holy Trinity. (We will still require a signature from you, however this will speed things up.)
Once we have assessed that we can legally call them here, we will require you to send a payment of £41, by bank transfer, cheque or cash delivered to the Vicarage or Church office (opening hours 9:15 – 1:15pm, Mon-Thurs).
WAYS TO PAY:
1. Bank Transfer. Please use the Reference: BANNS (your name)
HSBC Bank plc, Account number 20445479 Sort code 40-44-39
2. By cheque or by cash. For cheques please make payable to Holy Trinity. You can drop cash or cheques into the Church office (Mon-Thurs 9:15-1:15pm) or into the letterbox of 1, Vicarage Road.
